About DNR

An agency with experience

The Washington State Department of Natural Resources has a long history of leasing more than 1.1 million acres of state trust lands to farmers and ranchers for agricultural and grazing uses.

An agency with long-range vision

As envisioned by the original state constitution, these leases generate long-term revenue for the benefit of public school construction across Washington state. This allows us to take the long view as we look to manage these lands.

We work with lessees to ensure that the lands are productive and sustainably managed, while public resources such as water, fish and wildlife are protected.
